MILLTOWN — The Women’s Center at Jewish Family and Vocational Service of Middlesex County (JFVS) announces two upcoming workshops.
“Social Security and You” scheduled for Wednesday Feb. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. Bob Kierner of the Social Security Administration will discuss programs offered by Social Security such as retirement, survivor benefits, disability and SSI.
“Apprenticeship: Getting Paid While You Learn” is scheduled for Wednesday March 9, 2011 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Bruce Negri, Middlesex County Apprenticeship Coordinator and Donna Scalia from the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, U.S Department of Labor, will speak about apprenticeship opportunities for women. Discover how to begin a registered apprenticeship in a variety of careers such as medical coder, dental assistant, customer service representative, graphic designer, licensed practical nurse and many more.
JFVS is also offering computer training classes this winter. Classes begin the week of Jan. 17. Classes include Beginner Computer which is geared for individuals with little or no computer skills. This course will teach computer basics and keyboarding. Additional classes offered are Microsoft Word, Intermediate Word, Beginner and Intermediate Excel, Power Point and Simple Start for QuickBooks. The cost for each course is $75 with reduced fees for women who qualify as displaced homemakers.
