EDISON – Temple Emanu-El has announced its schedule of community events for January. Unless otherwise noted, all events take place at the temple, at 100 James Street in Edison. Call the temple at 1-732-549-4442 for more information.
Jan. 12–Each week on Wednesdays, a group gathers for study of the Torah with the Lunch n’Learn program. No prior knowledge is necessary. Bring your lunch or just an appetite for learning. Additional dates include January 19 & 26 at 12:30 p.m.
Jan. 14–Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration. At 6 p.m., start with a Shabbat Dinner. Cost: $18 for adults , $8 for children and kids under 4, free. (Reservations a must – call Temple if you have any questions.) The program continues at 7 p.m. with SHABBAT ALIVE! But this evening’s service of song and celebration will be in Baptist style. The choir of the New Hope Baptist Church will join the Temple Emanu-El choir in the stirring musical evening with all present participating. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Ronald Owens from the New Hope Baptist Church.
Jan. 15 — Winter Sports Social at The Club in Woodbridge. Bring friends to enjoy a fun night of basketball, volleyball, tennis, racquetball, swimming and rock climbing. An exciting night for folks of all ages, including supervised activities for kids 5-12 years old. Cost: $20 for adults, $15 for teens 13-18, $10 for children 5-12 and $55 for families. Each cost $5 more when purchased at the door. Drinks and snacks provided. Phone the Temple for additional information.
Jan. 21 — TOT SHABBAT, a special program aimed toward younger children, including a Shabbat Service and a Jewish craft project at 6 p.m. The regular service starts at 8 p.m.
Jan. 24 — Life Line Screening — Temple Emanu-El is hosting a day of preventive health care screenings. You can be tested for stroke risk, vascular disease and bone density. Costs are commensurate with the tests you wish to have performed, e.g., a full package of five vital screenings costs $139.
