TRENTON – This week, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission completed the rollout of its initial sports-theme license plate offerings with the introduction of plates honoring the area’s three NFL teams: the New York Giants, the New York Jets and the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Not only is there great fan support throughout the state for these teams, but the New Meadowlands Stadium will be hosting the Super Bowl in just three years,” said MVC Chief Administrator Raymond P. Martinez. “This collection of NFL plates should be an even bigger hit with New Jersey motorists now that two of these teams are headed to the playoffs.”
The MVC is offering the three National Football League (NFL) license plates through the mail with order forms available online at www.njmvc.gov/sports or at any one of the MVC’s 39 agencies. Plates are $60 for an initial purchase with an annual renewal fee of $60 in addition to standard vehicle registration fees. Personalized plates are also available for purchase. Revenue generated from the sale of the plates will go to the state’s General Fund.
NFL plates are the last genre of sports plates to be introduced by the MVC in its initial offering. On Oct. 20, 2010, the MVC unveiled its line of NASCAR-themed license plates. There are 10 driver plates to choose from, as well as a NASCAR fan plate and a Hall of Fame plate that honors the late Dale Earnhardt. The Devils’ license plate was unveiled on Nov. 10, 2010. Baseball and basketball plates were introduced shortly thereafter.
“The sale of sports plates is a win-win for the state as it allows fans the unique opportunity to show their pride on their vehicles while providing another valuable source of revenue,” added Martinez.
