LINDEN – Police have arrested a 17-year-old Linden man who allegedly robbed a taxi driver last year following a two-month investigation.

On Oct. 31, a driver for the Linden Yellow Cab company picked up two fares on the 1200 block of Middlesex Street and drove them to the corner of South Wood Avenue and 16th Street. One of the passengers allegedly used a novelty New York Yankees mini bat to attempt to strangle the driver during the robbery attempt.

Police received a tip from a citizen who read a newspaper account of the crime and saw a young man with bandages matching the description of one of the suspects.

On January 4th, complaints against the youth were approved by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office for robbery, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was taken into custody and transferred to the Union County Juvenile Detention facility pending an appearance in court. The investigation is continuing to identify the second suspect.
