RAHWAY –Ten municipalities provided mutual aid to the Rahway Fire Department when a building under construction on St. Georges Avenue was destroyed by flames early Tuesday morning.
The fire took an estimated 100 firefighters about five hours to bring under control and authorities predicted that it would be many hours yet before the they could be certain the inferno was thoroughly doused.
Rahway Fire Battalion Chief David Taylor said there were no injuries related to the four-alarm blaze, which started around 1:30 am, but the intensity of the heat stopped firefighters from entering the building.
