ELIZABETH – From Jan. 31 to Feb. 18, Union County College will be offer a free job training course in the restaurant industry to adult residents of the City of Elizabeth. This career-training course is for those who have a passion for food and who enjoy serving customers. Participants can also earn a nationally recognized certificate in Servsafe Alcohol Training.
The course will be offered daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Retail Skills Center in the Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth. This course is for anyone who would like to work in restaurant professional table service, as a restaurant manager, as a banquet manager, as a beverage manager, as a banquet server, as a kitchen steward, as a prep cook, as a food and beverage coordinator, or as a host or hostess. The course will also be offered on Feb. 16 and Feb. 17 only from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The restaurant industry is one of the largest private sector employers and has one of the most progressive career ladders of any industry. Professional servers can achieve compensation on an annual basis of $75,000. This industry is expected to add 1.8 million jobs over the next decade; 25,100 new jobs in New Jersey alone. Information sessions about this training course will be held on Jan. 18 and Jan. 25 at 110 a.m. at the Retail Skills Center.
