PERTH AMBOY — Ten people suffered minor injuries in a Sunday evening fire at Harbortown, a private housing facility in Perth Amboy, city officials said.
The fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. last night in the 32-unit complex. Residents have been relocated with friends, family and to vacant rental units, city officials said. The Alexander F. Jankowski Community Center (Human Services Department) has also been opened as a shelter for the families.
“We are working closely with Harbortown management along with the Red Cross to relocate families that were affected by the fire. Our safety personnel, fire and police are on site and are managing the current situation,” said Mayor Wilda Diaz last night.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire, city officials said.
