PLAINFIELD — Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs fired city administrator Bibi Taylor, removing her from office effective Christmas Day — nine days before she is due to deliver her third child.
Robinson-Briggs served Taylor notice that she was being dismissed on Wednesday evening.
“Observers have noted Robinson-Briggs’ hostile body language and rudeness toward her City Administrator at public meetings over the past several months, but I don’t think anyone dreamed the famously petulant mayor would go this far,” wrote Plainfield blogger Dan Damon.
“Taylor has been welcomed as a breath of fresh air, reasonableness and consistency since her arrival at City Hall over a year ago — and this by staffers, Council members and residents and business people alike,” said Damon. “After years of mediocre and sycophantic appointees in the top slot, folks warmed up to an obviously capable person who did her homework, got back to people in decent order and looked them in the eye whether it was good news or bad.”
Telegraphing the impending action, the Mayor issued three memos critical of Taylor, each warning of possible disciplinary action and/or termination, during the course of the day Tuesday.
The administrator’s termination comes as she was preparing staff to cover all responsibilities while she was on maternity leave.
