“…it’s a cynical life…”

I know…I KNOW…I am gonna get flogged for this one, but…

With all the holiday movies that come around this time of year, I am always reminded of one thing, that, I know, is not a popular thought, but…I am just not crazy about the Jimmy Stewart classic, “It’s A Wonderful Life”…

Now, I know it has a positive spin, that one person can realize the impact they have on others lives, and yea, that’s a good thing…but…

[smartads]

At the end, when ‘George Bailey’ comes ‘back’, the whole town comes out to ingratiate themselves to the Bailey clan, forgetting all about the reasons why George threw himself off the bridge to begin with…

…and that’s where I think the movie skews for me…

Yeah it’s a wonderful life, when everyone around you is cheerful and giving…not so much before he tanked…

What if, as today’s society would probably suggest, George did come back, and they still wanted their money, and the town still wanted to throw him in jail…what then?…

Would we have seen a ‘holiday tradition’ born on the silver screen…or would it have destined to become a ‘Waverly’ midnight classic perhaps…

If you take away anything from this movie, it should be, not what happens to George Bailey, as much as how the town reacts at the end…

There you see the difference a group of lives can make to the individual, and, through fellowship, we can all react that way to others everyday, and then maybe, just maybe, this could indeed be a wonderful life…

…and perhaps even, a wonderful world…
