Lawyer To Share Story Behind “American Gangster”

EDSION – Attorney Richie Roberts will answer the question “How Did a Boy From Newark Become the Subject of a ‘Hot’ Movie?” at the Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County later this month.

As part of the center’s Nosh ‘N’ Knowledge series, on Tuesday, Dec. 21, Roberts will discuss the back-story behind the hit movie “American Gangster” which focused on his work fighting drug dealers as a detective in Essex County. Roberts, who was portrayed in the film by Russell Crowe, is most widely recognized for the arrest, prosecution, and later, defense of Harlem drug lord Frank Lucas.


Roberts will share the twists and turns of his life from Weequahic High School to his present legal career.

Held at The Jewish Community Center, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison, the lecture begins at 10:30 a.m. and is followed by lunch.    The cost is $15 for Community Campus members and $19 for non-members.  Space is limited and pre-registration by Dec. 16 is required.  To register or for further information, contact Sue Horwitz at 1-732-494-3232 x603.
