STATE — One hundred and fifteen New Jersey representatives attended the National FFA Convention on Oct. 20-23 in Indianapolis, Ind. Twelve New Jersey FFA Chapters were represented: Allentown, Biotechnology High School, Cape May, Cumberland, Hackettstown, Newton, Northern Burlington, Penns Grove, Phillipsburg, South Hunterdon, Union County and Warren Hills. New Jersey FFA Advisor and New Jersey Department of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Education Program Leader Nancy Trivette of Ewing received the special VIP Citation for making significant contributions to agricultural education. The VIP Citation is one of the most prestigious awards a person may receive for supporting FFA and its programs.
Four New Jersey residents received the Honorary American FFA Degree: New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher; Bonnie Baldasare, teacher of agriculture, Union County Vocational School District; Dr. Thomas Bistocchi, Superintendant, Union County Vocational School District; and John Morrow, retired agriculture teacher. The Honorary American FFA Degree is bestowed upon teachers who have created high-quality agricultural education programs which inspire and motivate their students to strive for success and individuals who have provided exceptional service to agriculture, agricultural education, or Future Farmers of America.
