TRENTON – New Jersey baseball fans can now show their rooting affiliation on their license plates. Motor Vehicle Commission Chief Administrator Raymond P. Martinez announced the sale of license plates honoring the New York Yankees, the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies.
“Since these are three of the most recognizable and popular teams in baseball, I believe the plates will be a huge hit with vehicle owners,” said Martinez. “Having just come off of a great 2010 season now is the perfect time for baseball enthusiasts to order their plates before spring training begins.”
The MVC is offering the Major League Baseball license plates through the mail with order forms available online at www.njmvc.gov/sports or at any one of the MVC’s 42 agencies. Plates are $60 for an initial purchase with an annual renewal fee of $60, in addition to regular registration fees. Personalized plates are also available for purchase. Revenue generated from the sale of the plates will go to the state’s General Fund.
Earlier this fall, the MVC unveiled a line of NASCAR-themed license plates as well as plates honoring the local basketball and hockey teams. There are plans to announce NFL-inspired plates in the near future.
“The sale of sports plates is a win-win for the state as it allows fans the unique opportunity to show their pride while providing another valuable source of revenue,” added Martinez.
