SOUTH AMBOY – City Council President Fred Henry was officially named South Amboy’s mayor-elect on Friday after a recount upheld his one-vote victory margin.

Henry received 1,128 votes to Mary O’Connor’s 1,127 in the Nov. 2 general election.

Henry will take over for Mayor John O’Leary, who decided not to seek a seventh term after 24 years in office.

O’Connor can still challenge individual provisional and absentee ballots in court to attempt to have additional votes counted or rejected.
