LINDEN – Police arrested a 24-year-old armed robbery suspect after a bicycle and foot chase early Monday morning, authorities said.
Daniel W. DeHaven of Linden was charged with armed robbery, theft of prescription drugs and related weapon and drug counts, police said.
At 3 a.m. on Nov. 15, officers were dispatched to Walgreens Pharmacy on East St. Georges Avenue to respond to a report of an armed robbery in progress. The suspect allegedly entered the store wearing a camouflage face mask and used a knife to force the pharmacist to open a locked cabinet, authorities said.
The suspect allegedly took numerous containers of Oxycontin and Oxycodone and left the store through a rear door. He used a bicycle to travel south on North Wood Avenue, but abandoned it and fled through back yards when he noticed the police pursuit, authorities said.
Officer Javier Perez apprehended DeHaven in the back yard of a home on the 600 block of Spruce Street, police said. Officers recovered two knives, a camouflage face mask, and approximately 3,200 Oxycontin and Oxycodone pills at the scene, authorities said.
