ELIZABETH — Police have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting death of a 34-year-old Elizabeth woman, authorities said.
Just before 11 p.m. last night, members of the Union County Homicide Task Force arrested a male suspect in connection with the death of Yessenia Feliciano, Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow said.
According to the investigation, Feliciano was shot when she answered the door of her Erie Street home just before 6 a.m. on Sunday, Romankow said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Within a few hours of the shooting investigators had identified and had complaints signed against the 17-year-old suspect and were in the process of locating him,” said Romankow. “While that search was underway an anonymous caller phoned a tip into Union County Crimestoppers with the suspect’s location.”
With the assistance of the Newark Police Department, the Homicide Task Force located the suspect inside a NJ Railroad Avenue apartment in Newark. He was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with murder and weapon offenses.
The suspect is a juvenile and cannot be publicly named, but prosecutors said they will seek to try the suspect as an adult.
