Thief Takes $25,000 From Liquor Store

LINDEN – A thief took a money box containing approximately $25,000 in cash and several bottles of liquor from a store on West St. Georges Avenue Sunday night, police said.

On Nov. 7 at 11:25 p.m., officers responded to Metro Liquors to investigate a burglar alarm. While checking the rear of the strip mall, police noticed an open door at a vacant store next to Metro Liquors. Inside the vacant storefront, officers discovered a large hole in the wall leading to the interior of the liquor store.

Police recovered a portable saw, which was apparently used to cut the hole, and are reviewing footage from video surveillance cameras. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the burglary to contact Det. Frank Leporino at 1-908-474-8535 or email
