Stapleton Named Co-Captain Of SNHU Men’s Basketball Team

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University men’s basketball coach Stan Spirou announced recently that junior Tory Stapleton of Rahway and senior Cory Vejraska of Alachua, Fla. have been named team co-captains for the upcoming 2010-11 season.  Vejraska is in his second season as captain, while Stapleton enters his first season.

Stapleton, a 6-4 forward and graduate of Gill St. Bernard’s and St Thomas More Prep, has led the Penmen in scoring in each of the past two seasons.  In 2009-10 Stapleton averaged 13.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game to lead the squad in both categories.  He posted eight double-doubles and reached double figures in scoring 22 times while playing all 29 games, starting 28.  Stapleton enters his junior season just 236 points shy of 1,000.

Vejraska, a 6-6 forward who graduated from Santa Fe High School before enrolling at Bridgton Academy for a season, started all but one game for the Penmen last season and averaged 7.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in just over 25 minutes per contest.  He reached double figures in scoring six times last season, including a season-high 19 points in a win over Mercy College.  Over his three seasons Vejraska has averaged 7.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest.

The Southern New Hampshire University men’s basketball team opens its season Saturday, November 13 when it hosts Thomas College.
