Teens Injured By Out-Of-Control Clark Bonfire

CLARK – Two teens were injured last night when a bonfire in the backyard of a Wendell Place residence went out of control, authorities said.

Police, fire and EMS personnel responded to the home at 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 2 after receiving a 9-1-1 call from the New Jersey State Police, according to Clark Police Chief Denis E. Connell. A 15-year-old female victim was treated at the scene by paramedics and flown to the St. Barnabas Medical Center Burn Unit. A 16-year-old male victim was taken to St. Barnabas by ambulance.

Cause and origin of the fire is undetermined at this time and remains under investigation by the Clark Police Department, the Clark Fire Department and the Union County Arson Task Force, Connell said. Several other juvenile witnesses were at the scene and are assisting in the investigation of the incident.
