Robber Tries To Strangle Taxi Driver

LINDEN – A man allegedly tried to strangle a taxi driver with a New York Yankees novelty mini bat during a robbery attempt early Sunday morning, police said.

The 27-year-old victim, a driver for Linden Yellow Cab, picked up two fares at the 1200 block of Middlesex Street and took them to South Wood Avenue and East 16th Street after 2 a.m. on Oct. 31. When he pulled to the curb, one of the passengers allegedly tried to strangle him with the mini bat. The driver fought off the suspects before they could steal any cash, but they ran off with his cell phone.

According to police, one suspect is a black man, medium build, medium complexion who was wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt and gray vest. The second suspect was a black man, dark complexion, with bandages on his nose and right wrist, police said.

The victim did not require medical attention, according to police.
