MAHWAH – Sophomore Kharee Winslow scored with less than two minutes remaining to lift the sixth-seeded Kean University men’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over third-seeded Ramapo College in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The win, snapped a a seven game win-less streak for the Cougars (9-10-2) and advanced the team to the NJAC semifinals where they face #2 William Paterson University.
Both teams battled to a scoreless tie for more than 88 minutes, before Winslow capitalized on the free kick opportunity just outside the 18-yard box at the 88:13 mark.
The Roadrunners (11-3-4) had a chance following the restart, however the shot was high over the goal giving the ball back to the Cougars, who were able to keep the ball away from the Roadrunners for the remainder of the match to advance the Cougars to the semifinals.
Rookie Tyler Callahan made four saves in the shutout victory, while Ramapo senior Brad Stockon stopped three shots.
The Cougars now face the second-seeded Pioneers at Pioneer Soccer Park on Tuesday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m.
