UNION – Junior Olivia Triano scored the game-winning goal with 10 minutes remaining to lift the Kean University field hockey team to a 1-0 win over visiting SUNY New Paltz in non-conference action on Friday evening.
The two teams battled through nearly 60 minutes of scoreless action when Triano (pictured right) poked the ball away from the New Paltz defender in front of the cage and fired the quick shot for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
The Cougars (10-5) have now won at least 10 games in each of the last four seasons and in 10 of the previous 11 seasons.
For New Paltz (9-9), goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri stopped two shots.
Kean held a 13-6 advantage in shots and a 16-5 edge in penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Dobbs made two saves in the shutout.
Kean next returns to action on Monday, November 1, when the Cougars resume the Montclair State University game that was halted on Tuesday, September 28.
