The Irresponsible Option

While two of them appear to be well-intentioned and honest, another one of the three independent candidates is just plain irresponsible. Mary O’Connor’s naivete shines through almost every remark and her dishonesty is remarkable.

“Prudent planning would have prevented the gigantic tax increases,” said O’Connor. We would like to know how you can plan for being mugged by state government.

South Amboy officials were ready to introduce a balanced budget in January, before the Christie administration slashed state aid for schools and municipalities, robbed energy franchise fees that belonged to the cities and jacked up prices for public employee pensions.

Some 1.6 million New Jersey seniors are going without a Homestead Rebate this year because the GOP Governor would not restore a slight income tax surcharge on 16,000 millionaires who paid the little bit extra for nearly a decade. That’s not your mayor’s fault.

O’Connor promises a “better economic strategy for South Amboy” but she is opposed to the development of McCormack Aggregates and the surrounding property. The sand company currently pays about $80,000 in annual taxes but the 100-acre tract would add millions to municipal coffers when developed.

O’Connor is the kind of person who rushes into politics without thinking about the real work involved. The Home News Tribune jabbed her for mudslinging four years ago. Her election could be a huge mistake for South Amboy.

What does she really stand for? We don’t know, because in her four-year campaign that never came up. She has waged a campaign of innuendo and criticism without making a case about why she deserves support because she hopes to mislead voters with baseless accusations and empty rhetoric.

Someone asked, “Who loves you?” and I promise it is not Mary O’Connor, the mysterious con-artist. Finally, O’Connor could not complete a simple form showing how her campaign funds were spent four years ago. Was that merely a result of weak math skills or a poor attempt to hide illegal contributions?

She is pretending to be so much better than everyone else but the facts prove she simply does not measure up.
