Kean Women’s Soccer Bows Out of NJAC Tournament

GLASSBORO– The Rowan University women’s soccer team scored two goals in a three minute span in the first half to defeat Kean University, 2-0, Saturday evening in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

The Profs, ranked third in the NJAC tournament, improve to 15-2-1 overall while the loss completes the 2010 season for the Cougars with a 9-6-4 record.

Kean appeared to strike first early in the first half, but the goal was called back because of an offside penalty. Freshman Dayna Sakalsky scored the game-winner at 32:48 after beating a Cougar defender. She then assisted on an insurance goal at 35:22 as she sent the ball in front of the net to junior Veronica Rhea.

Senior Leandra Russo stopped three shots in the loss.

Rowan, currently ranked 19th in the national will travel to face William Paterson University on Wednesday in the semifinals.
