Violent Week In Elizabeth

ELIZABETH – A 21-year-old woman was murdered inside her apartment Sunday and four people were injured in two separate shooting incidents this week.

Thirty-year-old Bertin Rodriguez-Reyes was arrested Monday for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend, Jackeline Guillen, to death at their Stiles Street apartment on Sunday afternoon. He was being held on $1.5 million bail at the Union County Jail.

On Monday night, three people were injured in a drive-by shooting in front of the Oakwood Plaza apartments at around 6 p.m. The victims, a 20-year-old man, an 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, were struck by bullets fired from a silver Lincoln Continental with tinted windows, police said.

Two suspects were arrested, but police were awaiting the results of ballistics tests to link them to the crime.

A 66-year-old clerk working at the Econo Lodge on Routes 1 & 9 North was shot twice by a masked robber on Tuesday evening. The victim was struck by two bullets, one in the thigh and one in the chest, as he struggled with the robber when he demanded money, police said.
