Through Thoreau’s Eyes

GRIGGSTOWN — On Monday, October 18, members of the Class of 2012 at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in North Edison traveled with Dr. David Berry, Upper School English teacher and Department Chair, to the historical Delaware and Raritan Canal in Griggstown to recapture some of the intellectual freedom, appreciation of nature, and introspection that Henry David Thoreau presents in “Walden.”

The juniors tested water samples from the canal, calculated the width of the Millstone River, measured light penetration in the canal water, reported on how the canal functions, and reviewed the history of the canal.
