PISCATAWAY – The 2010 Faith Formation Convocation, sponsored by the Diocese of Metuchen Department of Formation and Leadership, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, 146 Metlars Lane. With the theme, “Apprentices to Christ,” the daylong conference will provide an opportunity for networking, learning and faith sharing among English- and Spanish-speaking Catholics who fulfill different ministries within the diocese.
Previously called the Catechetical Congress, the Faith Formation Convocation was renamed to more accurately reflect the diversity of people in ministries the annual event attracts, including those involved in parish catechesis, Catholic schools, youth and young adult ministry as well as those who are on an RCIA, adult faith formation, parish leadership or evangelization team.
“It is a day for reflection, prayer and spiritual nourishment for those in our Catholic community who serve as evangelists and catechists of our faith, “ said Cecelia Regan, executive director, Department of Formation and Leadership and diocesan director, Office of Catechesis. “It’s an opportunity for the diocese to offer them information, support and tools to fortify them so they may sustain their efforts in spreading the Good News and leading others by their example.”
The convocation will begin in the chapel with an opening prayer led by Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski followed by a presentation by keynote speaker Dr. Jerry Galipeau, Associate Publisher at World Library Publications, the music and liturgy division of J.S. Paluch Company based in Franklin Park, Illinois. Galipeau will share with participants a “holistic” approach to faith formation in parishes, which he says originates from the General Directory for Catechesis stating that, through their baptism, all Catholics are called to be “Apprentices to Christ.”
Attendees may select and attend up to three of the 24 ministry and personal growth workshops offered that day. The event will conclude at 3:45 p.m. with a closing prayer.
Cost for the conference is $35 and includes a light breakfast and bag lunch. To register or to learn more information, visit the diocesan website www.diometuchen.org or call 1-732-562-1990 ext. 1310.
