WOODBRIDGE – Avenel resident Michele Charmello was appointed to the Woodbridge Township Council last week, filling a seat vacated when Greg Bedard stepped down earlier this month.
The vote was 5-1 in favor of Charmello, 41, who has never held elective office. She has lived in Avenel for eight years and is treasurer of the Woodbridge Artisans Guild and secretary of the township’s Cultural Arts Commission.
The council did not vote on either of the other two candidates proposed by the township’s Democratic Committee, Avenel fire commissioner Earl A. Runkell II and party committeeman Timothy Devlin.
Bedard resigned on Oct. 6, citing family and work.
