UNION – Senior Lauren Matthews scored the lone goal of the match as Western Connecticut State University defeated Kean University, 1-0, Tuesday evening in women’s soccer action.
With the win WestConn improves to 10-4-1 while the loss drops Kean to 8-4-4 this season.
Matthews took advantage in the 40th minute with the keeper drawn out of the net. WestConn held a 19-4 advantage in shots and a 4-0 edge in corner opportunities.
Senior Leandra Russo stopped six shots for Kean while sophomore Caitlin Avery made one in the win.
Kean returns to action on Saturday for Senior Night and Homecoming as they take on Rowan University at 6 p.m.
