Clark And Linden Residents Among Union Catholic High School’s 2011 National Merit Commended Students

SCOTCH PLAINS – The principal, Sister Percylee Hart, RSM, of Union Catholic High School announced last week that seniors Brian Hartnett of Clark, and Sean Sarra of Linden were among four students to be named Commended Students in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.

A Letter of Commendation from Union Catholic and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, will be presented by Sister Percylee Hart to these scholastically talented seniors. Sydney Handsman of Scotch Plains and Brian Milanes of Union were the other recipients recognized as Commended students in this program.


National Merit Commended Students place among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2011 competition by taking the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Brian Hartnett currently serves as editor-in-chief of the school’s newspaper The Prophet Brian is also a member of Peer Ministry and plays on the varsity Golf team. Sean Sarra is a member of S.T.A.N.D (Student Take Action Now: Darfur), the Environmental Club and competes on the Forensics team.
