EDISON – Members of the Edison Wetlands Association and New Jersey Sierra Club are planning a rally tonight in front of the Edison Municipal Building at 6:30 p.m., prior to the Council Meeting at 7 p.m.
The groups oppose a plan to allow a portion of the Dismal Swamp Conservation Area to be paved over for a new development.
The 1,250-acre Dismal Swamp is located in South Plainfield, Edison and Metuchen, and is home to nearly 200 species of birds, including a dozen threatened and endangered species such as yellow-crowned night-heron, American bittern, grasshopper sparrow, black-crowned night-heron, northern harrier, and Cooper’s hawk.
