Elizabeth Gang Member Convicted Of 2006 Murder

ELIZABETH — Following a four-week trial, a Union County jury convicted a 24-year-old man of first degree murder for his role in the 2006 shooting death of an Elizabeth man, according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Eric Birthwright of Elizabeth faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced on Feb. 18, 2011.


According to the investigation Birthwright, a confirmed member of the Bloods street gang, shot Wiley Kinman three times following an argument at the intersection of Bayway Avenue and Maple Avenue, said Assistant Prosecutor James Donnelly, who prosecuted the case.

The shooting occurred on Nov. 14, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. Birthwright was arrested several months later following an investigation.
