EDISON – The New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services confirmed a case of rabies in a skunk found within Edison Township last week.
The skunk appeared sick and was reported by a resident of Wayne Street on Oct. 6. The laboratory confirmed the presence of rabies on Oct. 8. This is the second confirmed case of rabies in Edison this year. A raccoon tested positive in July.
The township’s Division of Health reminds residents to vaccinate their pets and leave wildlife alone. In case you are bitten by an animal, you should immediately wash the bite with soap and water and contact your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room. The incident should be reported to the Edison Health Department as soon as possible by calling 1-732-248-7273
