Voice of the People: Please Stop The Same Old GOP

The New Republican Agenda is the old Republican agenda: Tax cuts for the rich, cutting Social Security & Medicare, putting your health in the hands of greedy insurance companies, strangling government’s ability to assure justice and equality, and starting another war for oil.

When Republicans say they want to stop job-killing tax hikes, they are lying. They want to cut business taxes and they want to reduce the amount of money the government has to provide services for the middle class.

While Bill Clinton was president, the top income tax rate was 39 percent and America enjoyed a booming economy. George W. Bush cut taxes on the rich twice and he presided over three recessions. Most of this nation’s wealth is controlled by five percent of the population and they are not creating jobs or sharing the blessings of prosperity.

Republicans don’t want regulations that prevent corporations from polluting your water, they oppose your right to justice in a court of law that treats you fairly, they allowed Bernie Madoff to rob $65 billion before he got caught and when Wall Street robbed $8 trillion, the GOP bailed them out and tried to cut off benefits for the working people who paid for unemployment insurance.

Republicans don’t give a damn about solving your problem, they only want to make you angry or fearful of it and they want you to blame some nameless, faceless group like gays, immigrants, Muslims, or black people. Then they want to channel your emotion so you vote against the Democrats who want to educate your children, stop global warming, protect the environment, create good jobs and fight for justice, equality & opportunity. Democrats want to make everyone put in a fair share — no more and no less — so we can all get a chance to enjoy living the American Dream.

The GOP jobs plan will not create any jobs and cutting health care will create more unemployment and human suffering. The Republican plan for reforming Congress will not address the corrupting influence of money in politics, impose term limits or do anything else except slow down the legislative process (as if it were moving too fast). They would fund the Star Wars missile defense fantasy and provoke a war with Iran in spite of their insistence that terrorism is our greatest threat.

None of this makes sense because it is illogical and they don’t want you to think before you vote. Republicans got us into this mess and they want you to be mad that Democrats have not gotten us out of it in less than two years.
