RAHWAY–Registration is open for the Encaustic Painting Workshop with Francesca Azzara at Arts Guild New Jersey at 1670 Irving Street in Rahway, on Saturday, Oct. 23. The session runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The workshop fee is $65 plus a $25 materials fee. Students will also be required to bring certain materials with them to the workshop; a list will be provided at registration. Registration is limited to six students.

Encaustic or wax painting is a technique that dates back to ancient Greece and Egypt where it was used to decorate naturalistic portraits or tomb paintings. The process involves working with molten beeswax and colored pigments as paint and applying it with brushes to a rigid surface or wood panel.

This workshop covers a variety of techniques such as calligraphy, stenciling, etching, and transparent glazing, which are used to create encaustic artworks. Instructor Francesca Azzara has used encaustic exclusively in her own work for the past ten years and she has taught many encaustic workshops to adult students.
