Jury Convicts Man In 2006 Elizabeth Murder

ELIZABETH – On Monday, a jury found Maurice Brack guilty of murder for his role in the 2006 killing of Rhykime Richardson, authorities said.

Brack, who was 14 at the time of Richardson’s death, was one of six people accused in the crime. He is to be sentenced on Jan. 28, 2011.

Police received a 911 call of a fight in the area of Pulaski Street around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 18, 2006. Officers discovered Richardson lying in a pool of blood in the parking lot of a city recreation center on Richmond Street. He died a short time later, according to authorities.

The police investigation showed that the Richardson was involved in an earlier altercation with a Mravlag Manor resident, and that during the confrontation, the defendants chased him to retaliate against him for hitting their friend during the initial fight.

“This group of defendants pursued and hunted the victim as he ran for his life,” Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow said at the time of the arrests. “They cornered the victim in the recreation center parking lot where they beat, robbed and stabbed him to death.”
