Piscataway Teacher Charged With Sex Assault; Misconduct

PISCATAWAY — An English teacher at Piscataway High School was arrested today and charged with having sexual relations with a 17-year-old female student, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Piscataway Police Chief Richard Ivone announced.

Eugene Morales, 29, of Nazareth, Pa. was arrested at the high school and was charged with official misconduct, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of the child.

Detective Chris Raynor of the Piscataway Police Department and Investigator Daniel Ruschak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Morales had sexual relations with the student on several occasions between June and September 2010, authorities said.

The investigation began after an unidentified individual notified New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services officials, who contacted police.

Morales, who has been an English teacher at the high school since Feb. 26, 2007, is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. Bail has not yet been set.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on this, or similar incidents, to call Detective Raynor at the Piscataway Police Department at (732) 562-1100, or Investigator Ruschak at the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3600.

Authorities noted that as is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Morales are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
