SPRINGFIELD — Last week, the Union County Homicide Task Force charged and arrested a 20-year-old Martinsville woman with the deaths of two Springfield residents, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s office.
Megan Plank is charged with two counts of first degree drug induced death and one count of third degree distribution of heroin in relation to the Nov. 12 overdose deaths of Christopher Coppola and Sara Malaker in Springfield.
According to the investigation Coppola, of Bridgewater, and Malaker, of Springfield, purchased heroin from Plank earlier in the day. The pair returned to Malaker’s home in Springfield. Both were 20 years old, said Union County Prosecutor Theodore.
The pair were found by Malaker’s mother the following day. Both, according to the Medical Examiner, died from acute heroin intoxication, Romankow said.
Judge Robert J. Mega signed warrants against Plank and set bail at $200,000.
This remains an active investigation; authorities are asking anyone with information to call Task Force Sgt. Dean Marcantonio at 1-908-527-4699.
These criminal charges are mere accusations. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
