RAHWAY — In an effort to show that Freemasonry is not so secret anymore, La Fayette Lodge #27 F.& A.M. and many lodges in the state will be hosting an open house on Saturday, Oct. 9.
The Grand Lodge of New Jersey has asked that all lodges in the state host a “Square and Compass Day” on that date. La Fayette has opened its doors in the past to the community and enjoys sharing its history.
Located at 1550 Irving Street in Rahway, the lodge is inviting the public to share its rich history from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 9. La Fayette was first constituted in 1824 and the building on Irving Street was erected in 1924. Visitors will find out about Rahway’s relationship with the Marquis de La Fayette and see many artifacts, some dating back to George Washington.
Interest in Freemasonry in New Jersey has increased lately, partly due to men looking for good charitable organizations to support and the curiosity brought on by movies such as “National Treasure”.
Everyone is welcome and no donations will be expected or accepted. For more information, call Larry Bodine, SW at 1-848-219-0458.
