PLAINFIELD — The Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force is investigating the shooting death of a taxi driver this week in Plainfield, according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Around 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday, the victim was discovered in the driver’s seat of his taxi on the 200 Block of Spooner Avenue, said Romankow. Isidro Leonardo, 44 of Plainfield was taken to a Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick in grave condition. He was pronounced dead about six hours later, said Romankow.
Leonardo was an employee of United Taxi Company in Plainfield.
Authorities are asking anyone with information relating to the case to call Det. Kevin Grimmer at (908) 447-3777. Additionally people can call Union County Crime Stoppers at (908) 654-TIPS, which is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for the death of Leonardo. All calls are kept anonymous and confidential.
“As we do with every crime we will vigorously pursue the people responsible for this man’s death,” said Romankow. “Everyone deserves to live and work in peace and those who seek to disrupt this way of life will be captured and prosecuted.”
