Seventh grader Nicholas Abate with his poem

RAHWAY — Seventh grade students at the Rahway Middle School began the school year by completing an “I Am…” poem.

After drafting their poem in Language Arts class, Robyn Larche’s students typed and edited their poems in the computer lab where they were given a chance to show their artistic flair. Using color fonts and clip art, students brought their poetry to life.

Here is a sample of what’s on the minds of some of this year’s 7th graders:

I am an impulsive boy who likes dogs.
I understand that the economy is bad.
I say everybody has a talent.
I wonder how life would be if I swapped places with a less fortunate person.
I dream of becoming a veterinarian when I am older.
I hope the environment heals so we can save our arctic animals and help them survive.
I am an impulsive boy who likes dogs.
