WAYNE – Freshman Makia Sturgis recorded the game-winner in overtime as the Kean University field hockey defeated William Paterson University, 2-1, Tuesday night.
Sturgis knocked the ball in at the right post, connecting on an Amie Hoch pass from the center of the circle for the deciding goal.
William Paterson took advantage of its one opportunity when freshman Jacqui Giammetta turned and shot giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead with just under a minute to go in the first half.
Senior Kelly Mataya knotted the contest for Kean when she knocked in Hoch’s pass off a penalty corner in the 61st minute.
