MIDDLESEX COUNTY – Raritan Bay Medical Center has announced a number of community events in October.

October 2, 2010

OLD BRIDGE…Raritan Bay Medical Center and the Filipino American Association is co-sponsoring a free Health Fair Saturday, October 2, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Free health screenings and information will be available.  The fair will be held at its Old Bridge location, One Hospital Plaza, Old Bridge, adjacent to the hospital on Ferry Rd. between Routes 9 & 18.  For more information call 732.763.0802, 732.360.1405, or 732.910.9062.

Screenings include body fat analysis, lung capacity testing, blood type, blood sugar testing, blood pressure, stroke risk assessment, and eye screening.  Posture, muscle strength and hand grip testing will also be offered. Dental screenings will be offered for children and adults.  A CPR demonstration and education on nutrition and meal planning, cancer, diabetes, women’s medical conditions, HIV, urinary incontinence, celiac disease, fitness and wellness, bowel and bladder disorders, acupuncture and pelvic pain will be provided. A blood drive will also be held.

OLD BRIDGE…Raritan Bay Medical Center is sponsoring an Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Caregivers Support Group meeting Monday, October 4, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at its Old Bridge location.  Caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia are invited to attend. The meeting will be held in Auxiliary Hall C located on the lower level of the Medical Arts Building, adjacent to the hospital on Ferry Rd. between Routes 9 & 18.  Refreshments will be served.  Call 732.324.4930 to register or for more information.

PERTH AMBOY…Raritan Bay Medical Center is sponsoring an HIV support group meeting every Monday, at 6 p.m. Anyone diagnosed with or caring for someone infected with HIV is welcome to attend.  Meetings are held at the hospital’s Perth Amboy location, 530 New Brunswick Ave.  For location and to register, call 732.324.5022.  Free and confidential rapid HIV testing is also provided by the medical center, with results known in 30 minutes. WOODBRIDGE…Raritan Bay Medical Center is sponsoring a Breast Cancer Support Group workshop for those newly diagnosed with cancer, every Wednesday, 9 to 10 a.m., at the Medical Pavilion at Woodbridge, 740 Route 1 North, Iselin.  The workshop will focus on explaining medical procedures and treatments and providing practical advice and support to help participants reduce their apprehension, confusion and anxiety.  Program group leader Beth Rothman, MSPT, M.Ed., CLT, has over 25 years experience as a physical therapist, is a certified lymphedema therapist who specializes in breast cancer rehabilitation and has undergone treatment for breast cancer.  For more information or to register for groups, call 732.362.3860.

PERTH AMBOY… Raritan Bay Medical Center, with locations in Old Bridge and Perth Amboy and outpatient centers in Edison and Woodbridge, is holding its Annual Public Meeting Thursday, October 7, 6 to 7 p.m., in Centennial Hall, at the medical center’s Perth Amboy location 530 New Brunswick Ave.  Raritan Bay administrators will share information about its contributions to the community and the latest developments in RBMC’s comprehensive growth and renewal plan Vision 2011. The meeting is open to all members of the public where there will be the opportunity to ask questions. The meeting begins promptly at 6 p.m.

OLD BRIDGE…Raritan Bay Medical Center’s Division of Integrative Medicine is offering Tai Chi Qigong classes Mondays, October 11 through October 25, 7  to 7:50 p.m., at the hospital’s Old Bridge location, Auxiliary Hall B&C, located on the lower level of the Medical Arts Building, adjacent to the hospital on Ferry Rd. between Routes 9 & 18. PERTH AMBOY…Raritan Bay Medical Center’s monthly tour of its Dr. Sam Gordon Berkow Maternity Pavilion and family health information open house will be held Thursday, October 14, at 7 p.m.

Newly expectant parents are invited to take the tour and learn about the maternity unit’s modern comforts designed to provide a calm and relaxing birthing experience. As part of the event information is provided, in an open house format, about child car seat safety, guided imagery and body mechanics training for use during labor, nutritional information for mother and child, how to pick a pediatrician and an infant CPR demonstration.

PERTH AMBOY…Raritan Bay Medical Center is sponsoring a one day Childbirth Education / Lamaze Class Saturday, October 16, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The class is designed to help future parents better understand the childbearing process. WOODBRIDGE…Raritan Bay Medical Center is sponsoring a Breast Cancer Support Survivor Network Tuesday, October 26, 6 to 7 p.m., at the Medical Pavilion at Woodbridge, 740 Route 1 North, Iselin.  The support group is for men and women currently in treatment or who have completed breast cancer treatment, to share experiences and learn tips to deal with everyday issues.
