…and the debate continues…

a dear, wonderful, brilliant musicologist friend and i have this on-going ‘disagreement’…who’s version of “I Shot The Sheriff” is better…He says Eric Clapton, I say Bob Marley…

Both have merit, but it was Bob who wrote the song, and, when Clapton sings it, he sounds like an outlaw who did a bad thing, while Mr. Marley sounds like he’s struggling against oppression…

[smartads]

It was Marley’s version that inspired Mr. Clapton, and it was Marley who inspired many other artists with his music, including The Police, Culture Club, Steel Pulse, and others…

It was also Marley who inspired those politically, with the bringing together of opposing parties, and putting a spotlight on problems, and the answer on peace…

Now, there is no peace within the Marley family, due to the fact that, the record company executives and lawyers and that whole ‘red-tape’ business end of the music business claims that they own the rights to his music…

but it was also my musicologist friend who once stated…”God owns all the music…it’s just the devil that perverts it…”…Amen…

So legally…the debate continues…

But musically…the legend continues…
