PURCHASE, N.Y. — The New Jersey City University men’s golf team teed off in its second-ever event on Tuesday afternoon as the Gothic Knights placed ninth overall in the one-day Purchase College Invitational, at the Old Oaks Country Club.
Division I Manhattan College claimed the team title on the 6,411-yard, par-70 course with a team aggregate of 326. NJCU, in its inaugural season, combined for a 487, placing ninth. The Old Oaks Country Club, an acclaimed 1925 design by renowned golf architect A.W. Tillinghast, is considered perhaps the finest golf course in Westchester County, and has hosted numerous MGA tournaments and U.S. Open sectional qualifiers.
The individual title was won by John Manos of Centenary, who turned in an eight-over par round of 78 to hold off second-place finisher John Lee (79) of Nyack College for top medalist.
NJCU was led by freshman CONRAD OKONGO (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) with a 39th-place result of 109.
On Friday, October 1, NJCU will tee off in the NYU-Poly Invitational at the Dyker Beach Golf Club in Brooklyn, NY, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
