ELIZABETH – Last week’s murder of Newark resident Lawrence Baker was the latest killing in Elizabeth, but there have been at least seven others so far this year.
Baker was found fatally shot near the corner of Julia and Madison streets at 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 15.
Hillside resident Ewart Guillette was charged with murdering his wife, Stacey, near the corner of East Jersey Street and Madison Avenue at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 30.
Sixteen-year-old John Davis was shot to death at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 2 on the 800 block of Anna Street.
Armando Perez was arrested for allegedly killing Luis Mesa and Daniel Torres in a parking lot fight on the 600 block of Elizabeth Avenue at 4:20 a.m. on May 29.
Anthony Cook was fatally shot at 1:45 a.m. on May 9 on the 400 block of Irvington Avenue.
Jersey City resident Dean Bonds was shot at 9:20 p.m. on Feb. 10 on the 300 block of Irvington Avenue. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Fahteem L. Tucker was charged with killing 17-year-old Zorymar Rosado in a South Spring Street apartment just after midnight on Jan. 18.
There have been numerous non-fatal shootings in the city this year as well. Early Sunday morning, police responding to reports of gunshots fired pursued 30-year-old Anwar Crockett into Newark. Before Crockett was apprehended, an officer shot and wounded him.
