Railroad Crossing Repairs Close Main Street In Spotswood

SPOTSWOOD–The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced that a portion of Main Street (CR 615) in Spotswood will be temporarily closed in order to rehabilitate a Conrail railroad grade crossing.

Main Street closed at the railroad crossing adjacent to Sidney Avenue at 6:00 a.m. Friday, September 17 and will reopen by 6 p.m. Sunday, September 19.

The following detours will be implemented during the Main Street closure:

  • Northeast bound motorists will take Summerhill Road (CR 613) to Old Stage Road to Main Street.
  • Southwest bound motorists will take Old Stage Road to Summerhill Road to Main Street.

Access to all businesses and residences along Main Street will be maintained during the closure.

In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing on Main Street, NJDOT will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches. The cost of the work is $200,000.

This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year. Real time traffic information is available at www.511nj.org
