Police investigate explosion

Sept. 13 at 11 p.m. – Officers investigated a reported explosion at a house on the 400 block of Spencer Street. Police believe someone inserted apparent fireworks into a discarded plastic pipe left in the side yard by a resident of the home. No one was injured and police had no suspects.

Three injured in drive-by shooting

Sept. 14 – Police are investigating a late-night drive-by shooting on the 200 block of Bond Street that left three Elizabeth residents with serious injuries.

A 17-year-old from South Park Street was shot in the stomach, a 19-year-old from Erie Street was shot in both legs, and a 20-year-old from Bond Street was shot once in the chest. They were taken to University Hospital in Newark and are all expected to survive, according to police.

Police believe the shooting may have been the result of an argument that the men had with an unidentified woman moments before it took place. She reportedly told them “You better watch out,” as she was getting into a taxi.

The driver of a silver Honda Accord, a man with a pony tail, stopped in front of the victims a few minutes later and opened fire, police said.

Newark man killed

Sept. 15 at 6:45 p.m. – Police are investigating the death of a Newark man who was fatally shot near the corner of Julia and Madison streets.

Lawrence Baker died en route to Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth.

The case is being investigated by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force. Authorities ask anyone with information about the crime to call Prosecutor’s Office Detective Robert Henderson at 1-908-347-2686.
