Union Athlete Grabs Player Of The Week Honors

CENTERVILLE, Mass. — Junior forward JULIA CASERES (Union, NJ/Union) has added another award to her weekly resume. Already, this week’s New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Week, she has been named the first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate/Metro Offensive Player of the Week of the 2010 season.

She is the first player ever to win the combined ECAC award, which was condensed this year to include both the Metro and Upstate (New York) playing regions. Last season, she was a one-time ECAC Division III Metro Player of the Week (week one/September 15, 2009)

Caseres, the Most Valuable Player of the NJCU Liberty Cup, led NJCU (4-1-0) to the tournament championship and a 3-0 week by recording three consecutive hat tricks while scoring 10 goals with two assists for 22 points. She averaged 7.33 points and 3.33 goals per game while attempting 22 shots (11 on goal).

In a 9-2 win over Mount Saint Vincent on September 7, she struck for eight points—three goals and two assists, on five shots (three on goal), including the game-winner. In game one of the Liberty Cup on September 10, she scored all three goals for NJCU in a 3-0 win over Mount Saint Mary. On September 11, in an 8-1 win over Old Westbury, she netted her third four-goal game in two years at NJCU with four markers for eight points.

Caseres currently leads the NJAC in nearly every major offensive category. Through September 14, she leads the conference in points (29), points per game (5.80), goals (13), goals per game (2.60), game-winning goals (2), game-winning goals per game (0.40), shots (36) and shots per game (7.20). She is tied for third in both assists (3) and assist per game (0.60). Caseres, who is five goals and 11 points shy of becoming the NJAC’s all-time career leader in both goals and points, has netted at least one goal in every game this year.
