Volleyball Closes Out Cougar Classic a Perfect 5-0

UNION – The Kean University volleyball team swept through its three matches at its own Cougar Classic on Saturday afternoon in Harwood Arena.

The Cougars (7-4) won all five matches during the two-day tournament, as they defeated Southern Vermont (25-16, 25-10, 25-15), St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn (25-8, 25-17, 25-16) and Cooper Union (25-8, 25-8, 25-16).

Junior Tara Richey combined for 16 kills and a .682 hitting percentage in the three matches, while sophomore Amanda Gonzalez added 14 kills and seven digs in the three wins.

Junior Nicole Bolash finished with a team-high 14 digs in the matches, and senior setter Colleen Masterson had 50 assists and 11 digs in the victories.

The Cougars open New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Friday, September 18, when they face Montclair State University on the first day of the Kean Invitational.
