Intergenerational Orchestra Announces Open House Dates

BERKELEY HEIGHTS — The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra is expanding its opportunities for the musically inclined this 2010-2011 season.

New this fall is an ensemble that offers beginning music students of all ages, including seniors, the opportunity to learn to play in a string ensemble. NJIO’s Prelude String Orchestra meets Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. with its open house start dates of Sept. 16 and Sept. 23. This ensemble is designed for beginner string musicians who can read music. Seniors with limited finances should contact NJIO for assistance with musical instruction.

The Prelude String Orchestra, conducted by Margaret Roberts, offers two sessions (fall and spring) of 12 rehearsals each followed by an informal group performance with an audience. Bring a music stand and your instrument to the Wharton Music Center, 60 Locust Avenue, Berkeley Heights.

Two other ensembles, not new to the NJIO slate also have their open house start dates of Sept. 16 and 23. The Intermezzo String Orchestra, conducted by Gavin Davies, performs at the intermediate level for all ages and meets Thursdays from 5:45 to 7 p.m. The NJIO Symphony, conducted by NJIO Music Director Joe Gluck is for intermediate and advanced players of all ages and meets on Thursdays from 7:15 to 9:45 p.m. Auditions are required only for the Symphony 1st violin players.
